What happens in the first meeting?
The therapy takes place in a safe and confidential space in central Newcastle. In the first meeting I shall spend time getting to know about you, the problems you are experiencing, and your history. The assessment is also an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have. If, following this assessment, I think EMDR will be best for your needs and you would like to begin therapy, together we will make arrangements for your on-going treatment.
How many sessions will I need?
Compared with other therapies EMDR gives significant results after only a few sessions, often between 6 and 12. Exactly how many sessions depends upon various factors, such as the complexity of your problem and your history. For issues such as childhood abuse, or multiple life traumas, therapy will of course take longer. We shall discuss this together in the first meeting so that you are clear about the parameters of your treatment.
How long is a session and how often will they be?
Each EMDR session lasts 50 minutes. It is more effective if your sessions are closer together, rather than spread out. For this reason sessions are normally attended at least weekly.
Fees
Each session is charged at £85
